Volunteering for Conservation Projects

Volunteering in the Waikato Region

Head down to Hammonds Bush on the last Saturday of every month to take part in their monthly working bee. This can involve anything from building, to weeding, to planting.

Register your interest in volunteering on their website. Roles are varied but may include bird monitoring, pest control, being a tour guide, doing aviary duties (feeding the birds), cutting tracks, and being on the 'welcome committee' every Saturday.

Sign up for one of the organised 'Plant and Bash' events, head along to the annual Arbor day or contact the Hamilton City Council Community Planting Coordinator about other opportunities to volunteer.

Take a look at the DOC website for volunteer programmes by region and see if there's something that suits you.

Contact the Friends of Pukemokemoke to find out when their regular volunteer days are happening. These involve track maintenance, bird monitoring, removal of invasive weeds, and the planting of native trees.

Get involved in activities such as pest trapping, education, and monitoring. There is something for everyone depending on their interests and skills.
